“Takehiro Tomiyasu has successfully undergone surgery on his right knee, an injury sustained during pre-season,” the club said in a statement.

“Despite undergoing the first surgery in August and returning to training, including coming on as a substitute against Southampton in October, Tomi continued to suffer from the injury and eventually needed further surgery.”

Since Tomiyasu signed from Bologna for around £16m in August 2021, he has made just 50 starts in all competitions, and just 17 Prem starts since the 2022/23 campaign.
